THE FIRST EVER BELLYSIMA FOOD FESTIVAL HITS GLORIETTA

Last September 6 2014, Glorietta once again gave their shoppers another exciting reason to celebrate and create memories by giving their valued customers a belly-full of goodness in partnership with Mercato Centrale Group and Our Awesome Planet as they brought BellySima - The first ever food fair.

BellySima features artisans, gourmet and organic food and also non-food items in one stop.

Its also the first ever buffet the features all things healthy and organic from home made cakes, juices and snacks made from organic ingredients that are fresh from the farms!

I was able to sample some and to be honest I was bit floored with all the choices. One of the top picks I would say is Moo-La-la homemade ice cream because they have flavors that are so good like coffee and strawberry!

Second pick is Tummy Topps because they have this very yummy basil pesto spread that is good with anything. This is also home made and I was able to chat with its owner.

For shoppers who have a 1,000PHP receipt from Glorietta 3 and 5 merchants and restaurants and also Palm Drive restaurants may enter for FREE. Also VIPinoy and Amore cardholders may enter for FREE as well.

Tickets are sold via The Mercato Centrale Group will also be available at P50 at the Registration Booth.

Once inside those that have bought a ticket are given a card in which they can score each participant of the fair 1 being the lowest to 5 being the highest!

Glorietta continues to push the boundaries and provide shoppers with unique, one-of-
a-kind selection of products; shoppers will also get to discover new holiday gifts and
delicious new food alternatives for a healthier lifestyle!

The BellySima Food Festival will continue to please your bellies by being a weekly sight at Glorietta, to know more about it, log on to http://www.facebook.com/Glorietta.AyalaMalls; http://twitter.com/gloriettatweets, http://instagram.com/iloveglorietta , https://www.facebook.com/BellysimabyMercato; www.ourawesomeplanet.com/ .

Experience a Trip of Philippine Cuisine at Tambayan sa Kanto

If you want to taste the best dishes of the Philippines but don't want to spend time travelling to different parts of the PH for that I think I have a less stressful experience I can recommend you - Tambayan sa Kanto.

Tambayan sa Kanto is situated at the Ground floor of Podium Mall. It has a modern yet rustic feel.

Here are some of my food choices.

Ensaladang Filipino (150php) is a typical Filipino dish with grilled eggplant, tomatoes, onions, green mango and shrimp paste. This is a typical Filipino appetizer that is best served with grilled or fried dishes.

KBL or Kadyos, Baboy, Langka  is an Ilonggo dish that is a stew with soft texture with a contrast to the  Kadyos or black eyed peas. Its very mild to the taste but has a bit of sweetness which will make you go back for more.

Crispy Bagnet (488php) is of course Ilocos' famous dish. It has a crispy outside but soft and juicy inside.

coconut crusted prawns (438php) It has a very crunchy but flavorful batter in the prawn but added with the mango mint chutney it has a very refreshing taste to it.

For dessert, we had Halo Halo turon.

This is by far the coolest dessert I've tried because it is a fusion of two of my favorite afternoon delights - Turon and Halo halo!

The turon contained sweet red beans, gellatin and other toppings. You can dip it in the ube ice cream for that cool sensation but even eating it without the dip is great.

Those are just some of my recommendations but you can check out more at Tambayan sa Kanto!

Make sure to like them on their Facebook page for more update!

Much Love!

Friggies Launches its Website and its Delivery Service

As the juicing craze continuously creates a buzz in the metro, Friggies, a social enterprise hailing from the countryside is now ready to come out in the open to offer juicing with a new twist.

After months of testing out its products at the “Bahay-Kubo” booth at the GK-Enchanted Farm in AngatBulacan, and joining a series of food bazaars including a trial weekend market, Friggies is now inching its way into the mainstream market with the official launching of its website and roll-out of delivery service in Metro Manila area this coming September.

Friggies, which came from the words FRuIts and veGGIES,will be the emerging juice company among the pool of social enterprises such as Human Nature, Theo and Philo, Bayani Brew, Golden Egg, Plush and Play, First Harvest and Gourmet Keso to name a few. They support communities by sourcing their raw materials from GK-Enchanted Farm and cooperatives from around Bulacan, as well as other local farms in the country. Though still being in incubation stage, Friggies has been duly incorporated last June 19, which signifies that it’s about to make a name for itself.

The company draws inspiration from its founder, Frederick Espiritu, who sees Friggies as the culmination of his own personal journey of healing. He became a strong advocate of natural health after recovering from Hyperthyroidism that he had for more than 5 years. Since then, he has always been passionate of sharing this experience to inspire and help people deal with their health challenges. But it was after losing his father to cancer that became the biggest turning point in his life, and eventually paved the way to Friggies.
“I made a vow to myself that I’d do anything so that no other son would bear the same pain of losing his father to cancer,” said Fred whenever asked about the story behind Friggies.

On a lighter note, it actually came as a joke to Joey Lee, a close colleague and fellow natural health advocate, when Fred approached him one night at the office and asked if he’d be willing to start their own company.
“Fred told me that we will build a company that’s going to be bigger than the biggest coffee company in the world. And I was laughing while asking how we’re going to do that,” Joey happily recalled.
A month later, Fred also called in LisamariPolicarpio, another previous colleague of them to join and complete the team.

“After leaving my job, I was looking for a business opportunity to support my family while being hands- on raising my daughter,” Lisa shared on what convinced her to join.
“And Fred used to bring juices in the office and shared them among us. So when he said we’ll be making those juices for our products, I knew it has potential,” She added.
The trio, previously Telecom Engineers, then formed the unlikely team to put up a juice company.
On late November of 2013, they presented the idea to GawadKalinga in one CSI night, a regular gathering of social entrepreneurs at EF-Café. The proposal was approved and on December of that same year, Friggies had its selling debut during the Countryside Christmas Fair. It was a humbling kick-off experience, since Friggies was able to contribute a significant share on the proceeds for the Yolanda relief efforts. They were also delighted by the reception of the people who tried and bought the ABC Juice, which was the prime and only product back then.

Today, Friggies has four variants of cold-pressed juices to offer. After the ABC Juice, the company now focuses on coming up with juices made only from locally-sourced and organic produce. It’s interesting to note that each juice variant has a character. For one, the TM Juice was named after the founder of GawadKalinga, Tony Meloto. The AID Juice, is a functional drink that was specifically mixed to combat inflammation, hence the name Anti-Inflammatory Drink.
Their version of the green juice is quite special, because consumers get to choose the green veggies that will be mixed in the juice. Friggies aims to educate and raise awareness among its consumers the value of taking care of one’s own health. So they came up with the idea of juicing together through a fun and learning experience.
Friggies also introduced another product line Smooggies, which means ‘Smoothies by Friggies’ and it’s what they recommend to people opting for a meal replacement.
This is what sets Friggies apart from their counterparts that plainly offer juices for detoxing, fasting or cleansing. Instead of having 1-day, 3-day or 5-day cleanse, Friggies juices and smoothies are to be incorporated gradually into a regular dietary regimen until we are able to stick to a healthy-habit that eventually becomes a lifestyle.

“Healing is a journey. Juicing is a lifestyle,” as Friggies tagline would suggest.
“Our body heals through detoxing and cleansing. The purpose of the juices and smoothies is to help our body do them. Healing does not happen occasionally and optimum health is not something you can only have for a day or a week. It’s our innate gift, we are constantly healing and health is a way of living,” explained Fred on his personal views.

“Juicing is supposed to be an amazing experience, and it doesn’t necessarily mean you should not eat anything for days to benefit from it. We are trying to take care of our body, not impose some kind of punishment by starving ourselves. Healing takes place when our body feels that it is loved. This is what we hope people get from Friggies, to feel that they are loved,” Fred added with a smile.

Their website, www.friggies.com will be launched today, September 6 and it will be celebrated as they join “Belly-Sima”, the first ever artisan and gourmet food fair happening at Glorietta Activity Center in Makati, where free taste of Friggies juices and smoothies will be given.

Friggies Online Store is one the main pages of the website, where consumers can easily place their orders and securely process payments. They have key partners to cater the delivery of the juices and smoothiesright at your doorstep or wherever you’d prefer, all throughout the week.

Another major site feature is its blog section, where everyone is invited to share a story, be it a juicing experience, a vacation trip one recently had, or the things we are passionate about.

Truly, there’s a lot more to Friggies than what meets our taste buds. It’s as if we’re just having a taste test of what it has to offer. And the best is yet to come.

Cantonese Lunch at Pearl River Cafe

I grew up eating a lot of eastern cuisines from Japanese, Taiwanese, Korean and of course Cantonese cuisine.

I remember my dad always bringing me to Chinatown just for us to eat some authentic ones. Its a bit of a travel because I live in Quezon City. But luckily there is a Cantonese restaurant just 30 minutes from my house!

Pearl River Cafe is situated at the Sky Garden of Trinoma mall.

Its my first time eating Cantonese cuisine since my dad passed so this brought back memories.

No tears Alice. No tears.

They actually have a lot of Cantonese cuisine offered here. And if you are thinking of your wallet burning - not really something I would like you to worry about.

First off is congee with chicken and mushroom. Its a big bowl of congee with some strips of chicken and mushroom.

It has a very mild taste that is great on a cold weather. This is sharable for about 2-5 people and only costs 199php.

Next up is the sweet and sour pork belly. It has pork belly meat stir fried in a sweet sauce with bell peppers and some unripe mangoes. This is 279php.

The taste is a bit sweet for me and oily for me but it was not overwhelming to the palette. I have a bit of a hard time with this because its not something that I usually go for but its good to be eaten with rice.

Next is the steamed fish in garlic.

I actually hesitated it because it looked like raw fish with some sauce at the bottom and shredded toasted garlic on top.

But when I tried it made me appreciate it. It has a very clean taste and its really tender. I liked the most is the sauce at the bottom of the plate because it complements the fish really well. This is 199php good for about 2-3 people.

Next one is of course century egg!

This is a great combination with the congee. This is one of my dad's favorites which I never really knew why before but when you get a taste of this it would make you think why. The taste is not something that you will have everyday but it adds something more to the congee. This is priced at 89pho.

We also had pan fried chives dumplings and deep fried spring rolls. The pan fried chives dumplings is I think the highlight of the experience because it tastes so good!

The deep fried spring rolls on the other hand was good but not really up my alley. The pan fried chives dumplings are 99php and the deep fried spring rolls are 199php.

And to top off the meal we had some tea! To cleanse the palette and the guilt haha!

I liked the tea pot that they have at Pearl River Cafe because it looked so good! The tea was also great that I kept reaching to get another cup.

If you want to try some Cantonese cuisine and you don't want to burn your wallet make sure to check out Pearl River Cafe. They are located at the Trinoma Sky Garden.

Thank you to Ms. Kathy Kenny of Mylifeiskulayful.com for the recommendation!

Much Love!

Calling All Coffee Lovers! Catch the Philippine National Barista Championship This October!

Coffee. Some people they drink it to keep themselves awake, some would just drink one to keep sane from the work load, homework and cramming needed to be done before the deadline.

But if you are like me, I treat coffee with lots of respect and not take it for granted - just like a barista. Because coffee is not just a drink - its a science and art to perfect it.

Food Finds: Childhood Memories and Instant Yan Yan

Why hello there! So nice for you to be back!

Have you ever wondered what you can buy for 100 pesos and still be full? I have. Usually after work I eat out and be like

What fast food joint or fish ball stand should I eat out today?

First of all eating fast food or street food on a daily basis is not a healthy option I know that is why usually I eat out when I am near my house because there are a lot more choices here for some reason.

And one particular place I go to is Mercury Drug - I tend to buy food there since they have a mini grocery.

And also in my food finds I tend to stray away from the chips and chocolate..well mostly chips because they contain MSG or mono sodium glutamate that retains water in the body thus making us bloated a couple of hours after we eat. Yeah keep eating that instant ramen if you want a bloated face the next day - kidding!

And also I only give myself 100 pesos allowance to eat. Because I know that even with a 50 peso meal you won't feel full so make it a hundred.

Here are the items I got.

I got:

Fortune's Bread sticks for 22 pesos
Yakult Probiotic drink for 40 pesos
Finetti Hazelnut with cocoa spread for 35.75 pesos

The total? 97.75 php!

I still have 2. 25php change! What a steal right? If you want a receipt check it below.

I think sufficing the hunger in us doesn't have to cost us being unhealthy. So why don't you share your 100peso food find with me on Instagram!

I will do more of these in the future because of course who doesn't want a steal with food but still keep it healthy? If you are one of those people who don't then..shame on you! haha! kidding!

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Much Love!

Coffee and Alcohol at Tipsy Bean

I love coffee. Need I say more?

I was actually surprised with the thought that coffee can be added into a meal and with alcohol.

I sound so noob saying it but its true! One fact in that is this quaint restaurant I visited recently.

Tipsy beans is a restaurant and a coffee shop rolled into one. They serve a variety of foods from rice meals to pastas and also some drinks that are good for a sober up or to get tipsy. Sounds interesting eh? I'll tell you more about it here.

High school memories revisited at Kamuning Bakery

Initially a family owned bakery Kamuning bakery has been bringing delicious breads for about seven decades.

I have fond memories of Kamuning bakery in relation to their breads since I lived out my high school years with Kamuning bakery in almost every scenario that happened when I was in high school.

Wendy's Salad Bar is Back!

I remember my mm would bring me to Wendy's just to have salad.

I know. She's weird - now you know who to blame for what I became LOL.

Wendy's salad is something different because

1. It really fresh

2. You wouldn't get enough of it.

One particular branch I like is at SM North Edsa Annex who just had a renovation with a more clean and fresh look in their store! And also due to popular demand they brought back the Wendy's Salad bar!

For 199php you get to have a big serving of your greens! and other good stuff of course.

There are some rules of course:

1. Available for Dine in only.
2. One trip only.
3. No left overs
4. One ingredient for ingredients and also dressings.
5. Last salad bar refill is two hours before closing.

The rules actually are very easy and beneficial because their salad bar runs out quite fast so its really best to be there early to get the freshest ingredients.

There are three dressings to choose from: Thousand Island, Ceasar's salad dressing, and strawberry vinaigrette. I would recommend the strawberry dressing since it has a tangy flavor and gives the salad a more fresh taste in my opinion.

Here's my creation!

Its small and quaint but has a pack of flavor. You can go crazy with how much salad you can put in  your plate and you can share them with your friends and family if you dine in.

Check out Wendy's Salad bar for a filling and wonderful experience because of course we deserve this.

Like Wendy's Facebook page for more updates!

Much Love!
